Part 1: Speculating About the Past
- Let's talk about some important historical events (the sinking of the Titanic, the first moon landing, etc.)
Activity:
Remember to use modals for past speculation:
- What could have happened differently?
- What might the people involved have felt at that moment?
- What must they have been thinking during the event?
Examples:
- The Titanic might not have sunk if it had seen the iceberg earlier.
- They must have been terrified when they realized the ship was sinking.
Part 2: Speculating About the Present
- Lets's talk about any news that have happened recently.
Activity:
- What might be happening in this picture?
- Why could the people be acting this way?
Examples:
- They might be waiting for someone.
- They could be lost, that's why they look confused.
Part 3: Speculating About the Future
- let's talk about events in the future and how we can make predictions or speculate about what might happen.
Activity:
Choose one future event (like a new technology, environmental changes, a sporting event, etc.). Speculate about different possible outcomes using modals for future speculation.
- What might happen in the next 10 years?
- What could be the consequences of this event?
Examples:
- In the future, technology could completely replace teachers.
- There might be more extreme weather if climate change continues.
